Will you offer digital add-ons?

See the answer in the Digital section: we’ll have Fantasy Grounds and Roll20 support.

Will you offer print add-ons?

We’re likely to offer a few, though not more than about 5 or 6 items, and mostly additional copies of the Codex book, additional Codex pawns, or the like. There’s no guarantee of any particular item appearing as an add-on.

The goal is to fund the creation of this book, not to sell existing titles. To purchase existing Kobold Press books, we recommend the Kobold Press Store at https://www.koboldpress.com/kpstore or your friendly local games shop.

What is a Creature Codex Pawn set?

Pawns are cardboard minis or standups, printed on thick stock and die-cut. These will look very similar to the set we did for the prior book: https://koboldpress.com/kpstore/product/tome-of-beasts-pawns-print/

What is a Prepared 2 PDF?

It’s a collection of a dozen one-shot adventures for levels 1 to 11, written by Jon Sawatsky and with maps by Meshon Cantrill. Each can be run in an evening.

It’s also the followup to the popular Prepared book by the same creative team.

More details and cover/preview images here on the Kobold Press store: https://koboldpress.com/kpstore/product/prepared-2-one-shot-adventure-for-5th-edition/

Will the Creature Codex be released under the OGL?

Yes, just like Tome of Beasts, this will be largely open content (the exceptions are unique NPCs).

How and where do I submit a monster design? What are my chances of it being chosen?

The submissions window opens on Saturday, January 6. We’ll post directions for backers early Seattle time.

The monster submission overview is available here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/350683997/creature-codex-5th-edition-monsters-including-comm/posts/2067393

The monster text will need to be submitted by January 14, to give the judges time to dig through them all and choose top monsters.

If your monster is playable, fun, novel, and tightly constructed, your odds are excellent. In our prior project like this, we had well over 200 monsters submitted, and published 30 of the best ones.

{NOTE: If you are commissioning a monster, that’s a different reward. Once the project funds, the Kobold crew will contact you to get the concept you want designed, and we run with it from there.}

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
